Parkersburg fire hydrant tests to continue

PARKERSBURG — The Parkersburg Utility Board and the Parkersburg Fire Department will flow test fire hydrants the week of Aug. 20-24, weather permitting, in the following areas:

* Monday — 22nd Street at Lincoln Avenue, 23rd Street at Harrison Avenue, 24th Street at Gant Street, 25th Street at Franklin and Lincoln avenues

* Wednesday — Seventh Street at Woodrow, Briant, Woodyard and Race streets; 2100 block of 16th Street; 17th Street at Race Street

* Friday — Bird Street at the 600 and 700 blocks and Andrew Street, Lulu Street at the 600 block and Andrew Street, Putnam Street at the 500 block

Testing will begin around 9:30 a.m. and continue until complete. The process is necessary to determine the amount of water that can be safely accessed from a hydrant, officials said.

The process may result in discolored water in the areas tested. Customers who experience discolored water can flush the lines through a cold water tap at a bathtub or utility sink.

If the water does not clear within a few minutes, call the utility board at 304-424-8535 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or 304-424-8532 after 4:30.

Starting at $2.99/week.
