Police seek accident victim’s name

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance in identifying a pedestrian killed in an accident early Saturday morning on Interstate 77 at Parkersburg.

Sgt. Brett Pickens said the accident happened at 4:46 a.m. Saturday on I-77 at milepost 177.4 just north of the U.S. 50 interchange.

A semi-trailer driven by Larry Mussleman, 59, of Wooster, Ohio, was northbound on I-77 when Mussleman and his passenger saw what they initially thought was a deer crossing the interstate and began applying brakes. They then saw it was a person but were not able to avoid striking him. The pedestrian was thrown under the guardrail and landed about 10 feet down an embankment, he said.

Pickens said the unidentified white male was not carrying any type of identification and investigators were working Saturday to find out his name. He was described as standing 6 feet tall with an average build. He was in his late 30s or early 40s and had hair on the sides of his head but was bald on top.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wood County Sheriff’s Office at 304-424-1834 or the Wood County 911 Center at 304-485-8501.

“There’s no indication the trucker was at fault in any way, we’re just trying to identify this person,” Pickens said Saturday afternoon.
