Parkersburg man sentenced to prison
PARKERSBURG — A sentence of six years in prison was handed down in Wood County Circuit Court Wednesday for a Parkersburg man who pleaded guilty to a charge of fraudulent use of an access device.
Bryan Anthony Merritt, 35, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, was indicted on seven counts of the offense by a special session of the grand jury Aug. 17, 2017.
Merritt was also named as co-defendant in an indictment charging him with two counts each of delivery of a controlled substance and conspiracy to commit delivery of a controlled substance.
Wood County Circuit Court Judge Robert Waters sentenced Merritt to six years in prison with credit for 399 days served. Waters added a recommendation from the court for Merritt to receive intense substance abuse treatment while in custody. He was also ordered to pay restitution to WesBanco Bank totaling $1,010.
According to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court, at about 10:36 a.m. on July 19, 2016, Merritt used the WesBanco debit card of Linda Merritt to obtain $200 from a WesBanco ATM in Parkersburg. Police said the incident was captured on video surveillance from which Merritt was identified.
This transaction took place without the knowledge or consent of Linda Merritt, officials said. Bryan Merritt also served a year in prison after being convicted in 2008 of fraudulent use of an access device.
