Parkersburg South High School to hold lighting ceremony on Monday

PARKERSBURG — Parkersburg South High School will ring in the holiday season Monday with its annual “Lighting of the Lights” ceremony.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Monday in the school auditorium and is free of charge.

“It is an annual event where the south side community gathers to kick off the holiday season,” said choir director Jennifer Ratliff.

The Patriot Marching Band and Color Guard begin the evening followed by the PSHS cheerleaders and Southern Belles. After that is the choral section of the evening beginning with the PSHS Patriot Chorus followed by Blennerhassett and Edison Middle schools’ 7th- and 8th-grade choirs.

The evening ends with the PSHS Concert Choir, including the traditional processional “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.”

“This is a great opportunity for future Patriot students to see many of the activities they can participate in at South as well as a joyful event to put anyone in the holiday spirit,” Ratliff said.

The South Parkersburg Women’s Club will be providing hot chocolate and cookies following the concert.
