The ballet is based on the classic story “The 12 Dancing Princesses” written by The Brothers Grimm. It opens as two brothers discover they have become lost in the forest. A Golden Fairy appears to show them the way out, but first, they must go to the King’s castle to help him discover how his daughters are wearing holes in their slippers every night. The boys accept the task and set out to discover their secret.
The Golden Fairy has given each brother a cape to make them invisible so that they can follow the princesses every night. They discover that they go out dancing at a beautiful ballroom, a Charleston club and a gypsy camp. The King and Queen demand some answers but the brothers are having too much fun to give up the girls’ secret but in the end they all reveal the their love of dancing and the King and Queen give them all their blessing.
