Mid-Ohio Valley Players to hold ‘Cemetery Club’ auditions

MARIETTA — Auditions for “The Cemetery Club” by Ivan Menchell will be held from 6;30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 2 and 3 in the upstairs of the annex next to the Mid-Ohio Valley Players Theatre at 227 Putnam St.
Show dates are April 25, 26, May 2, 3 and 4.
Auditions will consist of reading from the script. Everyone is encouraged to audition, regardless of acting experience and newcomers are welcome.
“The Cemetery Club” is about three widows who meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands’ graves.
Ida is sweet and ready to begin a new life. Lucille is feisty and wants to have fun. Doris is judgmental, especially when Sam the butcher enters the scene. Sam meets the widows while visiting his wife’s grave.
A movie adaptation in 1993 starred Olympia Dukakis, Ellen Burstyn and Diane Ladd.
The roles are (ages are the character’s age and not necessarily the age the actor must be):
* Ida: Female, 50-65, lead character. The most charming of the three widows who faces life the most realistically, ready to move on from grief and accept new challenges.
* Lucille: Female, 50-65, lead character. The most brazen of the three widows. Has a good time and is always looking to get even with her unfaithful husband.
* Doris: Female, 50-65, lead character. The most conservative of the three, refuses to change anything, adheres to her strict principles of love and respect and expects others to do the same.
* Sam: Male, 50-65, supporting character. The local butcher, mourns the death of his wife, realizes that life has much to offer and is willing to take a chance on happiness again.
* Mildred: Female, 50-65, supporting character. A show-off and a flirt.
