Wood County Solid Waste Authority offering free class on soil composting
PARKERSBURG — A class on composting will be held today and next Wednesday.
Put on by the Wood County Solid Waste Authority, the Beginning Home Composting class will be held 6-8 p.m. at the Judge Black Annex in the Fort Boreman Room both today and next Wednesday, Nov. 13.
“We will be covering the value of composting as far as enriching the soil and teaching people who may be curious, but have never done it the proper way to compost,” said WCSWA Director Sarah Robinson.
Composting is the process of using food scraps and yard waste to reintroduce vital nutrients to the soil.
There is a limit for 25 people to attend. Robinson said they still had around five openings, as of Tuesday afternoon.
The class is free.
For those who complete both classes, they will receive a free composting bin, courtesy of the City of Parkersburg Tree Commission, Wood County Master Gardeners and the MOV Climate Action Group.
People are asked to call 304-424-1873 to sign up.
