Worthington Women’s Golf Association closes out season
PARKERSBURG — The Worthington Women’s Golf Association (WWGA) closed its 2024 season with its annual luncheon and awards ceremony, along with installation of next year’s board.
The highlight of the luncheon was the announcement of the 2024 Club Champion.
The winners from the 18-hole player group included: Carol Geletko, Mary Lopez, Debbie Full, Mirtala Smith, Judy Holmes, Shelly Hess, Gaye Fife, Mina Applebaum, Carol Ramsey, Marsha Jackson, Mary Ellen Eddy, Nancy Meredith, Sue Ellen Johnson, Sue Mitchell, Coleen Wittig and Jan Kiger. Mina Applebaum was named most improved, and Jean Chalfant was the Ringer Board winner. Mirtala Smith was awarded the State Pin.
The 9-hole player winners included: Lori Butler, Ann Boyce, Linda Connolly, Paula Tewksbury, Delores Steege, Mary McClure, Brenda Morton, Barbara Payne, Lois Boise, Donna Gaston, Dixie Arnold, Judy Langkamer, Evelyn Potter, Sandy Perrine, and Oma Jean Lynch. Sandy Perrine was named most improved golfer, and Patti Golden was the Ringer Board winner.
During the season Judy Holmes carded an Eagle, Debbie Full recorded the most birdies among 18-hole players, and Ann Boyce the most birdies among 9-hole players.
Prizes for ladies (18-hole) joining the “29 Putts Club” went to: Debbie Full, Linda Hedrick, and Judy Holmes.
Prizes were also awarded to (9-hole) ladies who joined the “15 Putts Club”: Susan Shawver, Margie Santer, Sandy Perrine, Barb Hupp, Ann Boyce, Lori Butler, Vicki Squires, Judy Langkamer, Delores Steege, Paula Tewksbury, Lois Boise, Jean Tornes, and Susan Cockerham.
The new Executive Board was installed and they will assume their positions for the 2025 league season. The 2025 board members are: Ellen Knotts, Chairwoman; Lori Butler, Vice Chair; Andrea Brock, Secretary; Sue Ellen Johnson, Asst. Secretary; Mary Ellen Eddy, Treasurer; Ann Boyce, Asst. Treasurer; Susan Cockerham, Parliamentarian; and Lori Butler, Advisor. Nominating Committee for the 2026 season will be Debbie Full, Barb Hupp, and Vicki Squires.
The WWGA will hold a dues coffee on April 29, 2025, at the Worthington Club House. League play for the 2025 season will begin May 6. All lady golfers in the area are invited to join the league and urged to watch for further details about the season to be announced early in the spring.
