Mountain State Art & Craft Fair tuning up fiddle contest

RIPLEY — The Mountain State Art & Craft Fair is seeking youth and adult fiddle players to participate in a contest from 1-4 p.m. July 2.

The contest will be divided into two categories, 16 and older and 15 and younger.

In the category for older players, the first-place finisher will receive $350, the second-place finisher will receive $250 and the third-place finisher will receive $150. In the youth category, the first-place finisher will receive $100, the second-place finisher will receive $75 and the third-place finisher will receive $50.

Contestants must be West Virginia residents and play two separate songs. They can have no more than two accompanists, but no electric instruments are permitted.

Each youth contestant must have a personal Social Security number to receive a cash prize and must be accompanied by a parent. Judging will be based on intonation, timing, difficulty, technique and music selection.

The Mountain State Art & Craft Fair will be held 10-6 p.m. June 30-July 2 at the Cedar Lakes Conference Center near Ripley. Admission is $5. Children under age 12 get in free.
