Parkersburg PD organizing search for Gretchen Fleming today

Gretchen Fleming

PARKERSBURG — A search for Gretchen Fleming, who has been missing since Dec. 4, will be conducted today by the Parkersburg Police Department, with the assistance of West Virginia Search and Rescue.

The police department released a statement reminding volunteers to meet at the parking lot adjacent to the floodwall on Second Street by 9:30 a.m. to sign in. The statement said the search is planned to last until 5 p.m. but volunteers are not required to stay all day. The statement said volunteers can leave at any time but are requested to sign out before leaving.

The statement said parking at the search location and availability of resources is limited and will only be able to accommodate a maximum of 300 volunteers. The police suggest volunteers arrive as early as possible to assist in the search efforts and to be thoroughly prepared for the elements and the rugged, wooded terrain of the search area.

The statement said police appreciate the outpouring of offers to assist the search with canines, horses, ATVs and drones but they are only looking for able-bodied volunteers with a positive attitude and the willingness to help.
