PARKERSBURG — Multi-media/eclectic artist Virginia Killian will exhibit her paintings at WesBanco Bank in August.

She has been painting for over 74 years and received an art degree from Ohio University. Killian has studied and taken workshops and classes throughout her artistic career.

For Killian painting and making art are not just hobbies or leisure time activities, they are a necessity, and she usually has at least three pieces of her art “work in process” at a time and has difficulty finding room for all of them in her studio.

“I sort out life’s ups and downs through my art. Sometimes I have painted a canvas and not realized what event I was painting until I study the completed image,” she said.

Some people communicate best with words, but Killian said she communicates through her art.

“I think it was Andy Warhol who said the worse thing about becoming famous is that now you have to paint the same thing over and over,” Killian said. “Since I paint for myself and am far from famous, I have the luxury to follow no style and to continually experiment with new materials and new ideas.”

The exhibit will be on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday at WesBanco Bank, 415 Market St.
