Mid-Ohio Valley Ballet Company to present ‘Mary Poppins’ May 13

The Mid-Ohio Valley Ballet Company will present a new, original ballet “The Adventures of Mary Poppins” at 7:30 p.m. May 13 at Marietta High School Auditorium. PARKERSBURG — The Mid-Ohio Valley Ballet Company will present a new, original ballet “The Adventures of Mary Poppins” at 7:30 p.m. May 13 at Marietta High School Auditorium.

The ballet is based on the original series of stories by P.L. Travers. Choreographer Suzy Gunter has created a dance version of the stories.

Bella Smith, senior company member, will dance the role of Mary Poppins. Trainee members Violet Bevins and Elliott Akeman will portray Jane and Michael Banks along with Danny Bayer and Suzy Gunter as Mr. And Mrs. Banks.

Rounding out the cast will be Jolene Troisi, Sarah Thomas, Alia Ott, Hallie Pierce, Sarah Harvey, Bethany Truax, Mallory Thomas, Bailey Gibeau, Meggan Starcher, Amelia Auville, Danae Tibbs and Helena Smith.

There are 40 students who form the MOVBallet Academy of Fine Arts, the official school of the MOVBallet, who will perform as children in the park.

MOVB is a professional, non-profit dance group that performs over 20 concerts, lecture demonstrations and Arts in Education performances annually. MOVB has toured extensively throughout West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Ohio since 1983 presenting specially produced one hour versions of the current ballet through the highly acclaimed “School Days Performing Arts Series.”

This special arts in education program has allowed over 30,000 public school children to see a live arts performance who may otherwise never have the opportunity.

Reserved seat tickets for the ballet are $15 for adults and $8 for children under 18 and seniors over 65.

Tickets can be purchased in person beginning at the MOVB Offices, 1311 Ann St., Parkersburg, box office hours are Tuesday 4:30-7:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the performance, box office choice only. Specially priced group tickets are also available.
