PARKERSBURG — A world of enjoyment for all ages awaits you at the Friends of the Library book sale at the Wood County Public Library on Emerson Avenue.

Every Wednesday and the second Saturday of the month, the Friends of the Library offer books of most genres, DVDs, audiobooks, music CDs and children’s books.

Proceeds from the sale go to help the library provide services.

According to the organization’s president, Lydia White, they helped raise money in 2021 that went into a new scanner and printer system for public use.

White said, “We are all about selling books and helping the library.”

They get their books to sell through donations from the public.

White also added, “anyone who wants to bring in books can do so. We welcome all donations but we don’t take textbooks, dictionaries, thesauruses and those kinds of things.”

Located on the lower floor of the library, there are racks of books for people to buy, and there is an overstock room full of books from donations.

White said the library will withdraw some of the books in lesser condition and send them to a recycling plant.

Last year, the organization did not accept any books due to COVID-19.

However, after the library reopened, the decision was made to start having the book sales on Wednesdays and second Saturdays.

Prior to this, they were having a spring book sale in April and a fall sale in October.

Some of the books they have available include those by James Patterson and John Grisham.

Other books they sell include adult and children’s fiction, non-fiction, history, cookbooks, and books on crafts and gardening.

White said that one of their most popular offerings is allowing customers to fill plastic grocery bags and purchase them for $5. This includes everything in each bag, not each individual item in the bag.

On Wednesdays, the sale runs from noon to 2 p.m. and on the second Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
