PARKERSBURG — As the holiday season draws nearer, people are hurrying up to find those perfect gifts.

One place that many in the community love to shop at is local craft fairs.

There were two craft fairs on Saturday, one at Parkersburg South High School and the other at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

Washington County Fairgrounds hosted the Marietta High School Band Booster Craft Fair, and the South Fall Craft Festival was sponsored by Parkersburg South Cheerleading.

Aside from shopping with vendors, each event also offered a raffle and food.

At South, the cafeteria, gymnasium and everything in between was filled with crafters just waiting to show off their talent.

Shoppers could find everything from paintings to woodworks and nail art.

Stacy Holbert, a vendor who made shirts, tumblers, popsocket covers and pens said she first began creating stuff as a hobby before deciding to set up shop.

“One of my friends got me into making tumblers and after a while people started commenting we should sell them,” she said. “I love when someone gives me an order I’ve never seen before… I really enjoy the challenge.”

Holbert said while it started with tumblers, requests kept flowing in and she was encouraged to try new products.

“I kept trying new things and expanding, now here we are,” she said.

In Marietta, they had about 65 vendors set up.

“We did great today and our vendors seemed to do well too,” said Prudence Burgardt event coordinator.

Burgardt said that the vendors are carefully picked, because there are only 65 spots available.

“The band kids and parents help with unloading and loading cars as well as set up,” she said.

Funds collected go towards the purchase of new uniforms in six months and new instruments or repairs for older ones.

“We have 68 new band members coming in, so we need wide variety of things,” said Lisa Bammerlin band booster president.

Burgardt said she and everyone else are extremely thankful to the fair board for letting them use the building.
