BELPRE — Maryjane Shackleford, Rotary Governor-District 6690, challenged Belpre members to be “change-makers” and “peace-makers” in line with Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta’s goals for the international organization, as well as her own goals for the district.

District 6690 consists of 59 clubs and over 3,400 members in Central and Southeastern Ohio. Shackleford announced that over 25 years, Belpre Rotary has donated over $60,832 to the Rotary Foundation, which helps Rotarians advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty.

She challenged the members to help reach her goal to grow district Rotary Club membership by 475 new members through asking friends and associates to join other members at a meeting or service project. The local club goal is to add eight new members.

Shackleford recognized three members as 125 Club members who contributed at least $100 to the Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund and $25 to PolioPlus 2 for the 2021-2022 Rotary Year. Belpre Rotarians achieving this goal are Linda Robinson, Larry Arnold and Jackie Poole.

She also presented Club President Linda Robinson with a special “Peace Candle” which has been produced specifically for District 6690 to assist the district and Rotary international’s work in promoting peace.
