Magic of Music new at the Smoot
PARKERSBURG — The Smoot Theatre, which has brought the arts to the Mid-Ohio Valley for 32 years, has announced a new children’s program.
The Magic of Music is a day camp for children in grades 3-5 who know nothing or little about music. Children will leave camp with a repertoire of songs that will never grow old and experience the fun of playing instruments to accompany their singing.
Staff will include retired music teachers Cathy Martin, Barbara Full, Marsha Parsons, Felice Jorgeson and Janet Blessing. Combined, they have more than 150 years of years of experience.
The camp will be held Aug 2-6 and begin each day at 10 a.m. and finish at noon.
On Day Two, guest Scott Cain will demonstrate a variety of folk instruments and children will have the hands-on opportunity to play the instruments. On Day Five, a short “Show and Tell” program will be held for parents to hear and see all the things that children have learned.
The day camp will provide a strong foundation for children wanting to become a part of the Smoot Children’s Chorus that is directed by Full.
Cost is $20. To enroll children in the program, visit the Smoot Theatre website at https://www.smoottheatre.com/.
