Liz Pennock and Dr. Blues plan summer tour
MARIETTA — Former Mid-Ohio Valley musicians and Upright Records recording artists Liz Pennock and Dr. Blues are returning to Ohio for a brief 2021 summer tour in August.
The piano/guitar blues duo relocated from the Marietta area to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1996, and they have returned to perform in the Midwest every summer since then, except for 2020 when the pandemic halted all music tours.
Liz Pennock and Dr. Blues will be performing their own brand of blues, boogie, and originals at The Adelphia Music Hall in Marietta on Thursday, Aug. 12. The duo will also be playing at the BrewRiver Creole Kitchen in Cincinnati on Thursday, Aug. 5.
The Adelphia show will be 7-9:30 p.m. and tickets are $10 by calling 740-374-8278. The BrewRiver show is 6-9 p.m. and ticket information is available by calling 513-861-2484.
Besides their Florida shows and summer tours, the blues duo has also toured in the United States and Europe. They performed at the prestigious Brussels Boogie Woogie Piano Summit in Belgium in 2004, and in Paris, France, at the International Boogie Et Blues Festival in January 2013. The duo has also played in Germany and Cozumel, Mexico, and they were inducted into the Boogie Woogie Piano Hall of Fame in 2008. In February, 2020, they hosted and performed at their 11th annual Boogie Woogie/Blues Piano Stomp at the Palladium Theatre in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The blues team now has seven CDs to their credit, including their latest album “Quirky Boogie,” released in 2016. They are celebrating 35 years since their first record “Bluesy Atmosphere” was released in 1986, and 25 years since the release of their best-selling album “Six Fingers Boogie” in 1996. The CDs are available at all performances and via their website at www.lizpennock.com
