PARKERSBURG — Four new members were initiated into the South Parkersburg Woman’s Club at the May 13 meeting at the Moose Club.

New members are April Binkney, Rebecca Sasher, Jessica Ward and Nancee Barney. President Karen Dent conducted the service and welcomed the ladies into the club. The new members and their sponsors participated in the ceremony.

Donations were collected for the Blessing Box and Little Library in Southwood Park. The Blessing Box offers food and other items to anyone in need. The Little Library has books for adults and children free for the taking.

Members collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House and pennies for school art programs. The club is also collecting “J” dollar bills (J-serial number) for the Anna Jarvis Foundation museum.

A donation was made to Teresa Racer and her Momma T and the Warriors organization after she spoke at the April meeting. Member Christi Walcutt donated 25 individual meals to the group who serves meals to the needy on Saturdays near the Cross Church on Market Street.

Items for Momma T were donated by other members.

Members attended the District Workshop held April 17 at New Hope Baptist Church. Cathi Wermter is district president. To allow for social distancing, the well-attended workshop was held outdoors and despite the cold weather.

April Binkney will present two Parkersburg South graduates with scholarships sponsored by SPWC at the PSHS awards ceremony later this month. The students are Nate Rippeto and Ciarra Binkney. Plans are in process for a July 8 Red/White/Blue dinner to honor these students.

Plans were made to plant flowers on May 20 in the Southwood Park garden plot and in the Welcome to Parkersburg sign flower box located at Route 95 and Edgelawn Street. Christine Rhodes is coordinator for these projects. Christine also thanked the volunteers for the successful rummage sale held in April.

A bylaws committee were appointed and will present changes at the June meeting.

Christine Rhodes and Dianne McClung were hostesses at the after meeting social time. Diane Heckert and April Binkney offered a small project and members made vase flower arrangements.

The 7 p.m. June 10 meeting will be held at the Moose Club. For any information about the South Parkersburg Woman’s Club, call President Karen Dent at (304) 485-1053.
