Smoot Theatre slates enrollment for vocal ensembles
PARKERSBURG — The Smoot Theatre Vocal Ensembles will hold an enrollment event 4-6 p.m. June 2-3 when potential singers can learn about the three vocal ensembles, meet the directors and ask questions about the programs.
Group singing will be part of the orientation, but no advance preparation is necessary. A parent must be present.
The event will be divided into two sessions each day, the first beginning at 4 p.m. and the second beginning at 5 p.m. Participants can pre-register at smoottheatre.com/youth-choirs, selecting their preferred date and time, or by attending one of the sessions and registering at that time.
Ensembles are the Children’s Chorus for boys and girls in grades 4, 5 and 6, the Girls Ensemble for girls in grades 7 and up and the Boys Ensemble for boys in grades 7 and up.
The Children’s Chorus is under the direction of Barbara Full, retired music instructor from Neale Elementary School, and accompanist Marsha Parsons, retired vocal music teacher at VanDevender Middle School.
The Girls Ensemble is under the direction of Cathy Martin, a retired Parkersburg High School A Cappella Choir director. The Boys Ensemble is under the direction of Janet Blessing, a retired vocal music instructor at Jackson Junior High School. The Smoot Theatre artistic director is Felice Jorgeson.
All groups rehearse on Tuesdays throughout the school year, the Children’s Chorus from 4:30-6 p.m., the Girls Ensemble from 5:30-7 p.m. and the Boys Ensemble from 7-8:30 p.m. Sessions will be held at the Smoot Theatre, 213 Fifth St. in downtown Parkersburg.

A $25 yearly fee is charged for membership in the Smoot Ensembles.
