Twin Rivers Baptist Church was established in 1996. Rushing was contacted and asked to serve as the new church’s pastor.
The first worship service was held May 5, 1996, in the Ohio Valley Room at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta.
The church’s chartering service was held on June 9, 1996, in the Marietta High School auditorium with Evangelist Bobby Brown as the speaker. The church charter was signed by 136 charter members and church membership was opened for those wishing to be members.
On Aug. 6, 1996, the church purchased around 7 acres on Muskingum Township Road 336 just off Ohio 821 and near Exit 6 of Interstate 77, the current location of the church. A groundbreaking ceremony for the church was held Oct. 26, 1997. Excavation began on Nov. 14, 1997, to prepare the land for the building. The first service in the new building was held Oct. 4, 1998.
There have also been other building projects through the years, including a new educational wing, which was dedicated on May 28, 2000; and under Pastor Baumer’s leadership, the church has seen the construction of a new Family Center, which was dedicated on June 5, 2016.
Rushing was church pastor from 1996 until July 2008 when he resigned to be the pastor of a Baptist church in Chesapeake, Va.
Current Pastor Jeff Baumer has served with his wife, Anita Baumer, since December 2008. Other full-time pastoral staff members are Roger Grantham, youth pastor/assistant pastor; and Tony Simon, children’s minister.
The church’s purpose since its beginning has been to preach the never-changing gospel to an ever-changing world.
COVID safety precautions, including social distancing, masks and sanitizing, are observed. Services also will be live-streamed on Facebook.
