Golf tournament to raise funds for Ohio River Festival
RAVENSWOOD — A golf tournament fundraiser for the Ravenswood Ohio River Festival will take place at Greenhills Country Club June 19 and reservations to play are open until mid-May.
The cost of a four-player team will be $200 and cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. Additional prizes included closest to the pin and longest drive by a male and female as well. Lunch is also included and some holes are still available to be sponsored, starting at the price of $250.
Usually having an elimination dinner and auction in March at First United Methodist Church to raise funds for the festival, president of the festival Lucy Harbert wanted to hold an outdoor event due to the concerns of holding the dinner without everyone receiving a COVID vaccine.
“Normally we have an elimination dinner in March and we do really well on that fundraiser. But I just wasn’t really comfortable having 300 people inside,” Harbert said. “It’s a nice big hall and everything but I was still a little leery because I knew everyone haven’t had their vaccines, so I was a little concerned.”
The Ohio River Festival Pageant will also be held on Saturday at Greenhills. The three age divisions are 16-21 for Queen Daphne, 13-15 for Teen Queen, and 9-12 for Preteen. Harbert said there could be a Miss Jackson County title only available to Jackson County participants.
Forced to cancel the festival last summer due to COVID, Harbert is excited for the return and looking forward to a jam-packed festival that will include live music, games, boat races, fireworks and more on Aug. 6-8.
“I’m just hoping that everyone will come down to Riverfront Park and enjoy it because we’ve got powerboat races again, inflatables, the fireworks and we’ve got great entertainment,” Harbert said. “We have bocce, cornhole toss and we just have all kinds of games. We have a big cake and pie contest and everyone wants to be the judge for that.”
