Charitable fund to honor local crafter

Clare Bernardine McCusker

PARKERSBURG — A charitable fund in the name of a woman who loved crafts has been established at the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation.

The Clare Bernardine McCusker Memorial Fund was established by the family of Clare Bernadine McCusker, who died in July 2020. The fund will continue her legacy and will forever provide annual support to organizations that pursue the development and education of music, arts and crafts in the foundation’s service area, causes which were near and dear to McCusker.

Organizations may submit requests for funding through Feb. 15 from the fund through the foundation’s community action grants process. It’s envisioned projects such as ceramics and needlework arts may receive funding through Bernardine’s memorial fund.

McCusker was a homemaker, wife, mother of five and grandmother to seven with a love for crafts of all kinds. She was accomplished in ceramics, but also enjoyed needlework, trunk restoration, community plays and the symphony.

She was a founding member of the St. Monica Parish in Lubeck and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in downtown Parkersburg. McCusker was active in the church, the community, the Parent Teacher Association and volunteered as a tutor for elementary-age students.

When she passed away in 2020, her husband, children and grandchildren considered how to best commemorate her devotion to caring for others and art in the community.

To make a tax-deductible donation to support the fund, send a check made payable to the foundation with “Clare Bernardine McCusker Memorial” on the memo line to PACF, PO Box 1762, Parkersburg, WV 26102. Donations may also be made online at www.pacfwv.com/donate.
