Parkersburg Art Center readies ‘Masked Media’ exhibit
PARKERSBURG — The Parkersburg Art Center will hold an exhibit opening on Sunday, Nov. 15, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the art center at Eighth and Market streets in downtown Parkersburg.
The show features work by members of the Innovative Arts Alliance, a group of artists from Ohio and West Virginia who work in painting, collage, textiles and sculpture.
“Because this is a mixed-media show … and because all six artists, will be wearing their masks, we are calling this show ‘Masked Media,'” said Abby Hayhust, Artistic Director for the art center.
The colorful and eclectic display of local art showcases works by Ele Rumen-Allen, Lana Galloway, Susan Nash, Susan Stubbins, Virginia Killian and Lynda Berman.
The public is invited to don their favorite mask and stop by on Sunday to see how these women have conquered the COVID-19 doldrums by pouring on the creativity, said Jessie Siefert, the art center’s managing director.
“There is no fee for attending this opening thanks to our sponsor Wesbanco,” Siefert said. “But donations to support the continued operation of the art center will be gratefully accepted at the door.”
“Masked Media” will remain on display through the end of December at the art center.
Opening later this month will be the Parkersburg Art Center’s annual Artist Tree display featuring 15 trees trimmed by students and volunteers in the style of famous artists. The unveiling of the festive display coincides with the Holiday Open House and Artist Market on Nov. 27 and 28.
The Parkersburg Art Center is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. More information is available at www.parkersburgartcenter.org.
