PARKERSBURG — Wood County Society members teamed up with Cedar Grove Assisted Living to bring smiles to residents and staff with signs to decorate the yard.

According to Wood County Society Director Brandon Gress, Wood County Society Artbeat artists worked in collaboration with staff and individuals from ResCare in creating unique and one-of-a-kind personalized signs for Cedar Grove Assisted Living.

“Our mission of providing compassion, inclusion and abundance is spread throughout our region – and Wood County Society is humbled to bring simple joy to anyone we can during this unprecedented time,” said Gress.

Amy Cole, resident services coordinator at Cedar Grove Assisted Living, said the signs brought smiles to everyone’s faces.

“We try to keep the residents happy and occupied by doing crafts, doorway bingo, hallway karaoke and puzzles, but nothing makes them quite as happy as receiving a card, a phone call or being visited even if it is just through the window at this time,” said Cole.

The signs said things like “You are somebody’s reason to smile” and “We love you (followed by a resident’s name)” for residents and “We appreciate you” for staff.

“The community outpour has been wonderful,” said Cole.

Cole said that if anyone is interested in writing to a resident, making signs or swinging by to say hello through a window that they can contact her by calling Cedar Grove at 304-424-6023 or making the letter out to her and sending it to 110 Nicolette Road, Parkersburg, West Virginia 26104.

“If you send a letter I will make sure it gets to a resident who is in need and is not receiving cards and or phone calls from people often,” Cole said.

Gress said Wood County Society is open to “giving joy, compassion, love and smiles” to anyone who may need it in the days ahead. Those wishing to collaborate with them may contact him at director@woodcountysociety.com.
