Stuart’s Opera House readies performances

Dwight Icenhower

NELSONVILLE — Two big shows are planned Friday and Saturday at Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville.

Jonathan Richman with Tommy Larkins & Bonnie “Prince” Billy with Emmett Kelly will perform 8 p.m. Friday and Elvis tribute artist Dwight Icenhower will perform 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets, prices and more information for both shows are available at 740-753-1924 or stuartsoperahouse.org.

Richman and his drummer Larkins will start the show on Friday, followed by Billy and Kelly.

Richman, who has performed most of his life, has played with The Modern Lovers.

Larkins was in Naked Prey, Giant Sand and other bands in Tucson, Ariz.

The last original song by Billy was in 2011’s “Wolfroy Goes to Town.” Billy has since recorded songs written by the Everly Brothers, Susanna Wallumrod, Mekons and Merle Haggard.

Icenhower was the 2016 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist named by Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises.

He was raised in Pomeroy and began his career by singing karaoke at a local fair when he was 16. Icenhower is among the few Elvis tribute artists who have made a full-time career in the field.
