West Virginia Symphony Orchestra-Parkersburg to hold performance

PARKERSBURG — The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra-Parkersburg will present its next performance, “A Night at the Oscars,” at 3 p.m. Sunday at Blennerhassett School.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available at wvsop.org and some tickets will be available at the door, or by calling 304-485-4200.

The concert is sponsored by WesBanco. The musical selections include “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial,” “Chariots of Fire,” “Jaws,” “Star Wars,” “Fellowship of the Ring,” “West Side Story” and more. The WVSO’s new assistant concertmaster, Erin David, will perform as soloist for “Schindler’s List, Remembrances.”

Katy Shankleton Williams, guest soprano, will perform “Sound of Music” and “Suite from Titanic.” Williams has performed extensively in the Pittsburgh area. She is an adjunct music staff at Point Park University, Carnegie Mellon University Pre-college program, and Washington and Jefferson College. She is the vocal artist-in-residence at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Mt. Lebanon, Pa. She is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Vocal Performance.

The show also will be presented 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Clay Center in Charleston. Concert tickets start at $17 and are available at wvsymphony.org or by calling the Clay Center Box Office at 304 561-3570.

The symphony also will hold a free public open house with the Charleston Area Alliance’s Business After Hours from 5-7 p.m. today at the Maier Foundation Performance Hall. A symphony ensemble will perform.
