PARKERSBURG — The annual Classic Plastics Toy Expo will be held March 7-8 at the Parkersburg Art Center and will feature celebrity guests, events, toys, comics, games and cosplay.

The expo, now in its seventh year, will be held 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 7 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 7 at the art center at 725 Market St.

Vendors, exhibitors and fans will gather with shared interests in toys, books, comics, movies and television. Activities will include game tournaments and others and the annual Cosplay Contest.

Tickets to the expo will be $5 each day or $8 for both days with children ages 10 and under admitted free.

As part of the event, Main Street Parkersburg will hold its annual Savor Saturday event with downtown eateries offering discounted food samples during Saturday’s activities at the expo.

The last few years have averaged over 1,200 people through the doors, organizers said. Proceeds raised from the door and table registrations are donated to the art center.

Additional information regarding activities, vendors and more is available at classicplasticstoyexpo.com or on the Classic Plastics Toy Expo on Facebook.

As part of its weekly Arty Party series, the art center will be offering free Super Hero activities for children from 10 a.m. to noon. Normally held in the art center’s basement, the March 7 Arty Party has been moved to the Artsbridge office at 925 Market St. It will feature Super Hero face painting, making Super Hero masks and a Super Hero cape and even take some Super-fun selfies before visiting the expo.

There will also be a Cosplay Contest on March 7. There will be an Exhibition category for people who only want to show off their costume on stage for fun. The competition categories will include: Juniors (ages 12 and under); Original Design; Novice: Journeyman; and Master. In the judged categories, all costumes must have been made from scratch by the costume creator. All costumes must be derived from the original source material/artist/creator. Participants can register for the contest at the cosplay sign-in/judging table.

Each year, the expo features celebrity guests. One of this year’s announced guests is professional wrestling legend “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, whose career goes back to the early 1980s, with stints in the WCW, WWF/WWE and others over the years.

Savor Saturday will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as an opportunity to sample favorites offered in downtown restaurants.

For every sample purchased at participating restaurants, customers will receive one entry into the Savor Saturday contest (plus receive a bonus entry for checking in to the event on Facebook). The prize is dinner for two at a downtown restaurant of their choice and two entry tickets into the 2019 Taste of Parkersburg.
