PARKERSBURG — The YMCA of Parkersburg, along with Parkersburg Cardiology Associates, WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center and Chemours, hosted the Heart of Our Community Dinner to recognize Tom Phillips as the 2019 Heart of Our Community Award recipient on Nov. 5 at Grand Pointe Conference Center in Vienna.

The evening was filled with fun and inspiration as the YMCA honored Phillips for his contributions to the Mid-Ohio Valley and Y communities, the organization said. For many years, Phillips has served both the Marietta YMCA Marlins and the Parkersburg YMCA Sharks Swim Teams.

According to the Swimming Coaches Association, Phillips is classified as a Level 5 Coach. The YMCA of Parkersburg presented him with a framed photo of The Ohio State University Stadium. Ohio State is Phillips’ alma mater.

Following Phillips’ recognition, the keynote speaker was WVU Baseball Coach Randy Mazey. Entering his eighth season with WVU, Mazey is the 4th winningest coach in WVU history. His team recently hosted a NCAA Regional and secured a top-25 recruiting class. Mazey inspired the audience by sharing his coaching experiences and “14 Rules for Life,” the YMCA said.

All the proceeds from the event will support the Y’s community programs and resources that support youth development, healthy living and social responsibility within the Mid-Ohio Valley region.
