MARIETTA — Congregation members of the Saint Paul’s Evangelical Church, 401 Fifth St., worked in assembly-line fashion to can fresh beef vegetable soup from 150 pounds of potatoes, 40 pounds of hand-chopped onions and the donated use of more than 10 crockpots for the church’s fundraiser today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“This is really about fellowship,” said church member Linda Stewart, 70, of Marietta. “We come together and make soup and all of those funds go to help support our community and the worship we give.”

The congregation sees between 35 and 40 attendees on Sundays, said Pastor Joe Vasarhelyi. But getting together for service and common projects throughout the week also builds that community, he said.
