Children compete at annual Holly Days Pageant in Vienna

VIENNA — The Vienna Holly Days Christmas Pageant was held on Nov. 2 at the Vienna Senior Health & Wellness Center.

“This year was super successful; we saw 67 contestants,” said Linda Kern, pageant director and event coordinator.

Children ages one month and up, along with Ms. and Mrs., participated. This year the theme was “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” The welcome party was held Oct. 28, and all the contestants wore their Grinch socks and pajamas.

“This allowed the contestants to be more comfortable, ask questions and to experience what to expect on pageant day,” said Kern.

All of the contestants and their families brought in nonperishable food to contribute to the Wayside United Methodist Church’s Good Samaritan Food Pantry.

This year’s “Miss Holly Days Community Service” title was awarded to Madi Harrington, who collected the most nonperishable goods with 827 items.

According to Kern, the pageant brought in a total of 1,880 pounds of food.

The new royalty will be serving the community throughout the 2020 year at many of the city’s events.

“Congratulations to our new 2019 Holly Days Royalty, and a special thank you to all past royalty, for all your service to Vienna,” Kern said.
