VIENNA — The 2019 SW Resources “See Our Best” benefit gala will feature members of the West Virginia University Jazz Ensembles on Oct. 25 at the Parkersburg Country Club.
The benefit gala at 5 p.m. supports SW Resources, a nonprofit, community-based vocational rehabilitation facility in Parkersburg. SW Resources provides employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
WVU Jazz Studies Director Jared Simms will perform with a combo of students at the event this year. Simms has performed with an array of artists that includes Han Bennink, Cecil McBee, Bob Brookmeyer, Stefon Harris, Landau Eugene Murphy, Temptations, Four Tops, Melvin Sparks, Soulive, Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers), DJ Logic, Kiddus I, Matisyahu, the 10,000 Maniacs, and Noel Gallagher (Oasis).
The event is sponsored by the Deitzler Foundation and is in memory of Mary “Mickey” Welch. Welch of Parkersburg was an avid supporter of WVU during her lifetime, donating generously to WVU, the university noted. Welch died on Aug. 27.
