Parkersburg Art Center readies ArtOberfest
PARKERSBURG –The Parkersburg Art Center will hold its annual ArtOberfest from 5-10 p.m. Saturday in the 700 and 800 blocks of Market Street.
Art vendors will provide demonstrations and sell their original artwork, pottery and gift items. The entry fee is a donation for the art center’s programs for children and seniors.
Music will be provided by High Schools That Rock, Morgan Stubbe, Levi Westfall and Plan B. Characters from the Actors Guild’s upcoming production of “Mary Poppins” will stroll through the festivities. Food will be provided by local restaurants and beer by the Parkersburg Brewing Co.
“Just look for the red umbrellas, Edison lights and fall decor! This block is hard to miss at night,” said Jessie Siefert, managing director of the Parkersburg Art Center
New to the event will be a Chalk the Block and CAR-toberfest. These activities will take place on the 800 block of Market Street.
The chalk festival is an opportunity to watch local artists create amazing works of temporary art directly on the road. Artists will begin working at 2 p.m. and the public is welcome to come and watch them while they create. Visitors will be able to vote on favorites once the pieces are finished. There will also be an area for them to get creative.
CAR-toberfest, the artful car, truck and bike show, will feature uniquely customized vehicles of all ages and styles. This event opens at 4 p.m. and is being run by the Pioneer Antique Auto Club.
“This is a real collaborative effort on the part of downtown arts organizations, the City of Parkersburg, local businesses and Downtown PKB,” Siefert said. “After the IEP plastics fire the first year and the storm last year, we were hesitant to try again but the support of everyone from the musicians, artists, restaurants, planning committee, sponsors … has been amazing. Whatever happens this year, we will still have a good time.”
“This event would not be possible without the support of our sponsors, Bill Bailey Insurance, Hall Financial Advisers, Discount Pool Supply, Artsbridge, TLR Productions and CAS Cable,” said Abby Hayhurst, the art center’s artistic director. “We are also grateful to our partners, Parkersburg Brewing and Downtown PKB and our friends at Pioneer Auto Club and the Wood County Society. Many thanks to all of them!”
