Fifth annual Rosary Rally set for City Park

PARKERSBURG — The 5th annual Rosary Rally, hosted by the Catholic churches of the Mid-Ohio Valley and the Knights of Columbus, will take place Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Parkersburg City Park bandshell, rain or shine. The first rally took place in 2015 by the Parkersburg Council of the Knights of Columbus, America Needs Fatima and local Catholic churches. Since then, members have come together once a year to recite the Rosary in a public forum.

This year’s rally falls on the 102nd anniversary of the miracle of Our Lady at Fatima. Portugal in 1917 was the setting for the appearance of The Blessed Mother Mary. She appeared six different times before three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, church officials said.

Seventy-thousand people witnessed the last apparitions which took place on Oct. 13, 1917. During the 12-minute miracle, Our Blessed Mother Mary stated, “I am the lady of the rosary,” church officials said. The apparitions signified a request for prayer, sacrifice, making amends for wrongdoings, consecration and the daily recitation of the Rosary.

Prayer cards and rosaries will be available. The event is open to all, regardless of denomination. Immediately following the program, a hot dog lunch will be provided.
