Smoot Theatre to hold ensemble auditions

PARKERSBURG — The Smoot Theatre vocal ensembles will hold auditions at 4 p.m. Monday at the Smoot Theatre, 213 Fifth St.

The ensembles are the Children’s Chorus for boys and girls in fourth through sixth grades, the Girls Ensemble for girls in grade seven and up and the Boys Ensemble for boys in grade seven and up. A $25 yearly fee for membership is required for the Smoot Ensembles.

The Children are under the direction of Barbara Full, retired music instructor from Neale School, and accompanist is Marsha Parsons, retired vocal music teacher at VanDevender Middle School. The Girls are under the direction of Cathy Martin, retired PHS A Cappella Choir director. The Boys are under the direction of Janet Blessing, retired vocal music instructor of Jackson Junior High School.

All groups rehearse on Tuesdays throughout the school year, the Children from 4:30-6 p.m., the Girls from 5:30-7 p.m., and the Boys from 7-8:30 p.m.

Auditions for STCC will consist of singing “Happy Birthday” and “Are You Sleeping” (all music provided) and matching pitches played on the piano. Auditions may be private or with a friend.

Also, auditioners may sing a song of their own choosing, bringing any music necessary for accompaniment. A parent must be present at the audition.

Auditions for the Girls and Boys Ensembles will consist of a check of vocal ranges and some additional melodic and rhythmic exercises. No prepared solo is required. A parent must be present at the audition.

More information may be obtained by calling the Smoot at 304-422-PLAY. Anyone who cannot audition on that date should call and request a different date and time.
