Man charged over incident at McDonough Park

Graham Godwin

A Parkersburg man on Wednesday was accused of conveying false information concerning terrorist acts over two suspicious packages found at McDonough Park on March 24, the Vienna Police Department said this morning.

Graham E. Godwin, 28, was charged with the felony and appeared Wednesday evening before Wood County Magistrate Jody Purkey who set bond at $75,000. Godwin posted bond and was released.

Godwin was not accused of making or placing the devices at the park, Police Chief Mike Pifer said.

A package was found by a walker between noon and 12:30 p.m. on March 24, Vienna Police said. A two-liter bottle was filled with a liquid and metal items, according to police.

The park was closed and evacuated. While police and firefighters were on the scene, they found a second item similar to the first one.
