Artsbridge bringing string quartet to Mid-Ohio Valley schools
PARKERSBURG — The Montclaire String Quartet will perform for Artsbridge’s Artists-on-Tour series Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in elementary schools in Wood, Pleasants and Ritchie counties, Belpre City Schools and Warren Local Schools.
The performance is suggested for kindergarten, first, and second grade students.
The Montclaire String Quartet is the Resident String Quartet of West Virginia State University. It previously held positions as Artists-in-Residence with the West Virginia Symphony, the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater and the New Hampshire Music Festival.
They are previous prizewinners of the Evian International Quartet Competition, the Banff Quartet Competition and Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition, among others. They have given recitals all over the world, including the Terrace Series at the Kennedy Center.
Education is important to the quartet and the members have brought classical music to every county in West Virginia over the course of 30 years. Montclaire is known for its innovative Young People’s Concerts.
This year they will present “The Preposterous Flight of Peter Penguin,” complete with puppets to entertain with laughter and learning. Study guides are provided for teachers through Artsbridge prior to the production.
Funding for Artsbridge arts education programs is provided in part by West Virginia Division of Culture & History, Ohio Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts, The Ross Foundation, Fenton Foundation Inc., The Bernard McDonough Foundation, Highmark, Peoples Bank and by contributors to the Artsbridge Fund.
The schedule of performances includes:
* Monday, 9 a.m., Belpre Elementary, and 12:30 p.m., Warren Elementary, Marietta
* Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., nine Wood County schools, Blennerhassett Auditorium, Parkersburg
* Wednesday, 1 p.m., Ritchie County Schools, Ellenboro
* Thursday, 9 a.m., Pleasants County Schools, Belmont.
