Smoot Theatre set to present Spring Sing
PARKERSBURG — The Smoot Theatre will present its annual Smoot Spring Sing on Saturday at the historic theatre in downtown Parkersburg.
A day of activities for invited child singers will culminate at 4 p.m. with a free public concert on the Smoot stage at 213 Fifth St.
The event is sponsored by The Smoot Theatre Children’s Chorus and is for area young singers who have received invitations from their music teachers or from a current chorus member. Area music teachers were asked by the chorus staff to select their school’s best singers and give them the opportunity to sing on the Smoot stage with the local children’s vocal ensemble.
The 46 invited guest singers will join the chorus members for a day of fun musical activities, learning vocal techniques and new songs, which they will then performing the public concert. Also participating in the day’s activities and concert will be The Smoot Theatre Boys Ensemble, The Smoot Theatre Girls Ensemble, and The Smoot Theatre Barbershop Quartet.
The vocal ensembles are under the direction of Barbara Full, Marsha Parsons, Janet Blessing, Cathy Martin and Felice Jorgeson. Auditions for next year’s groups will be May 29-30 at 4 p.m. and information may be obtained by calling the Smoot at 304-422-PLAY (7529).
