Belpre Homecoming Festival announces acts
BELPRE — The entertainment at this year’s Belpre Homecoming Festival will feature a mixture of old and new music.
The 86th annual Belpre Homecoming Festival will be Aug. 2-4 at Civitan Park in Belpre, with three days of entertainment, rides and other activities and attractions.
Chuck Lipps, entertainment chairman for the festival, said this year’s entertainers will be Shane Runion Band, Rick K. and the Allnighters and Full Circle Band.
“What we tried to do when putting together the schedule this year was looking at giving an opportunity for everybody to have a variety of music,” he said.
Shane Runion Band will open the festival with a performance at 8 :30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, on the main stage at Civitan Park.
Based in Portsmouth, Ohio, Lipps described the Shane Runion Band as an up-and-coming new country act. Runion is a past winner of the Ohio State Country Showdown who moved to Nashville to pursue a country music career. Runion’s current single, “Tattoos” is climbing the country charts, he said.
Long-time local favorites Rick K and the Allnighters will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3.
The band is known for performing music from the 50s and 60s, doowap and other types of music.
Lipps said the group closed out last year’s Belpre Homecoming by performing the Saturday night concert. Due to weather concerns, the festival’s annual classic car show had been moved from its usual Friday slot to Saturday night, coinciding with the Rick K concert and the combination was very popular with visitors, Lipps said.
This year, organizers decided to combine the two events again for the Friday night slot in hopes of another positive response from the crowds, he said. Sponsored by Leavitts Funeral Services and Pioneer Antique Auto Club, the Cruise-In Car Show begins at 5 p.m. Aug. 3.
Full Circle Band will close out the festival with a performance at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 4.
Lipps described Full Circle Band as a southern and classic rock band performing music from the 70s and 80s, including songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kansas, Boston and others from that period. The band features a lead vocalist, two drummers, two lead guitarists, a bass player and a keyboard player.
In addition to live entertainment, the Belpre Homecoming will feature carnival rides, attractions, food/crafter and commercial vendors, carnival rides and other activities.
The Belpre Chamber of Commerce, The Belpre Invitational Homecoming Association and Belpre Lions Club will sponsor the 86th Homecoming parade at 10 a.m. Aug. 4 featuring marching bands, floats, pageant winners, business, church and non-profit units will greet residents and homecoming visitors on Belpre’s streets.
Prior to the parade, the Belpre Mile Road Race will be held on Washington Boulevard at 9:40 a.m. Aug. 4.
On the grounds of Civitan Park, crafters and home-based businesses will showcase their products at the Homecoming Craft show. Applications for a booth can be picked up at Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce, 713 Park Drive, Belpre, or by calling 740-423-8934.
Non-profit, food, non-food and commercial vendors will set up booths or trailers throughout the event for the enjoyment of Homecoming visitors. Call the Chamber office for applications and pricing, or stop in at the office.
The Belpre Homecoming Pageant program seeks to find children and youth to represent Belpre at civic functions and local events and the pageants are always a highlight of Belpre Homecoming. Contact the Chamber office for more information or to pick up an application.
