PARKERSBURG — The Mid-Ohio Valley Americana Music Series is welcoming back Phil Lee with special guest The Ben Davis Jr. Band on June 28 at 7 p.m. at Artsbridge, 925 Market St. in Parkersburg.

“This was one of our best received shows in 2015,” musical coordinator Jeff Fox said. “It was Phil’s first time playing for us, and of course we listen to his recordings, but it’s the banter in between the songs of a live show which sometimes unlocks an artist’s character.”

And no one will argue that Lee is not a character, Fox said. As a man who has toured under the title of “The Mighty King of Love” only to return on a later tour named “The Fall & Further Decline Of The Mighty King Of Love.”

“A Phil Lee show is quirky fun, rapid fire wisecracks from years of touring, precisely delivered in between absolutely incredible songs,” Fox said. “When Lee sings a twisted little ballad about lost love, eventually folks have a light bulb go off … a “is he singing about me” moment is born. Lee’s songs are finely crafted to be simple, straightforward, beautiful and relatable.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and music will begin around 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for a recommended donation of $10. However, no music supporters are turned away due to financial issues, said Fox. The show will help raise money for the Children’s Home Society of WV-Parkersburg office.

Lee will be joined by the Ben Davis Jr. Band, one of Southeastern Ohio’s favorite and hardest working bands, said Fox.

“Davis Jr. is a favorite at many venues in our region and is a regular contributor to MOVAMS events throughout the year. His brand of classic country rock and folk represents the movement of younger musicians keeping that ’60s and ’70s musical spirit, which greatly influenced Lee, alive.”

Lee is a product of the 1960s, drawing influences from Porter Wagoner, Jimi Hendrix, Flatt & Scruggs, The Rolling Stones, Hank Williams, The Tams, Dylan, Elvis.

Over the years Lee has performed with The Clovers, The Drifters, Billy Joe Royal, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Beverly D’Angelo, Howie Epstein, Jack Nitzsche, Willy Mason, Slash and is currently working with members of Neil Young’s longtime touring band, Crazy Horse, on a new album.

Fans are welcome to bring their favorite snacks and beverages for the show, to enjoy responsibly, said Fox. There will not be any sold at the show.
