MOV events offer New Year’s countdown opportunities

PARKERSBURG — Mid-Ohio Valley residents will have a number of activities and events to choose from as they celebrate the end of 2017 and the arrival of 2018 on New Year’s Eve.

Some of those will include:

∫ The Blennerhassett Hotel in downtown Parkersburg will host a New Year’s Eve event to ring in 2018 called “A Vintage New Year’s Eve” at the hotel at the corner of Fourth and Market streets in downtown Parkersburg.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the event will feature a night of dinner and dancing with music by local band Hip Pocket. There will be other activities and attractions. Reservations are recommended since space is limited.

∫ North Bend State Park at Cairo is offering special packages for New Year’s Eve. The park lodge will host a dinner with two seatings — at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. — followed by a dance from 9 p.m.-12:30 a.m. with live music by Stonestreet Band. There will also be snacks, party favors and a champagne toast at midnight.

There are separate prices for singles and couples for the dinner and dance with or without overnight lodging. For more information or reservations, call North Bend at 304-643-2931.

∫ Hocking Valley Scenic Railway will hold a New Year’s Eve Train and Fireworks show on Dec. 31.

The train departs the Nelsonville Depot at 10:30 p.m. and travels to East Logan and return. On the return trip, the train stops near the stroke of midnight at everyone is treated to a fireworks display to bring in 2018.

Two seating sections are available: “Pizza & Pop” and “Wine & Cheese.” Only those over age 21 are permitted in the Wine & Cheese section and the family-friendly Pizza & Pop is open to all ages.

During the ride, depending on seating choice, you will be served either pizza cheese pizza or pepperoni, and soda pop (diet versions and water also available upon request) or wine and cheese. You may not bring alcohol on board, but you are welcome to bring other food and soft drinks as you’d like.

Each coach is heated. You can not move from car to car or section to section during the train ride. You also can not leave children under 18 unattended in Pizza & Pop section.

Reservations, online or by phone, are required as ticket sales end at 11:55 p.m. on Dec. 29. The duration of the ride is two hours.

∫ On New Year’s Eve, the Lafayette Hotel in downtown Marietta will feature a New Year’s Eve Party from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. with music by local band Titus Canbee. There will be a midnight buffet, party favors and a champagne toast at midnight in the ballroom. The cost is $35 for singles and $65 for couples.

∫ The Adelphia Music Hall in The Galley at 203 Second St. in Marietta will host a New Year’s Eve Party with music from Back Porch Alibi.

Doors open at 7 p.m, and music starts at 9 p.m. Some seating will be available, but no reservations will be taken — first come first served. Tickets available at the Galley and at supremeticket.com.. General admission is $10 advance, $15 on the day of show. It includes champagne toast.

The VIP upgrade is $40 per person, $70 per couple and includes access to the balcony and banquet room, open bar and appetizer buffet from 7-9 p.m., a meeting with the band and champagne toast. The upgrade must be purchased in addition to general admission ticket.

∫ The 14th Avenue Gospel Mission Church will have a New Year’s Eve Watch Service on Dec. 31 at the church at 4124 14th Ave. in south Parkersburg.

The evening will begin at 9 p.m. with food and fellowship in the Fellowship Hall, with the service to follow from 10 p.m. until midnight. Music will be provided by The Burch Family.

∫ In Marietta, the Valley Gem Sternwheeler will offering a New Year’s Murder Mystery Dinner Cruise from 8 p.m. to midnight Dec. 31, departing from 601 Front St. in Marietta.

The cruise will feature the murder mystery “The Murderer Who Came to Dinner,” a prime rib dinner and a champagne toast at midnight. The cost is $45 per person and includes the dinner, show and toast. Reservations are required by calling 740-373-7862.

∫ In Parkersburg, The Kanawha United Methodist Church on W.Va. 47 near the Eastwood Volunteer Fire Department will hold a New Year’s Eve Celebration at 7 p.m. Dec. 31.

Dayspring and the duet of Sonya Jackson and Ann Moore will perform. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall.

∫ The Quality Inn in Marietta will be holding a New Year’s Eve Party on Dec. 31 from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. with music by After Shock. There will also be a Tarot Card Reader. The hotel is located at 700 Pike St. in Marietta.

There are different packages with offerings including a dinner buffet, a midnight buffet, party favors and other activities. Some packages also include overnight accommodations.

∫ Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5108 will hold a New Year’s Eve dinner and dance from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. Dec. 31 at the post at 319 Pike St. in Marietta. The dance will be preceded by a steak dinner from 5-7 p.m. Another dinner consisting of pork, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes will be served at midnight.

Insured Sound will provide the music. The cost is $15 per meal for the dinner. There is no cover for the dance. To sign up, contact 740-374-9038.

∫ On New Year’s Day, the Baptist Temple of Parkersburg will hold its annual free New Year’s Day community dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 1 at the church, at 19th Street and Park Avenue in Parkersburg.
