Stuart’s Opera House to hold music, poetry events

NELSONVILLE, Ohio — Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville, Ohio, will host a pair of events this weekend focusing on music and poetry.

Texas singer/songwriter Hayes Carll will perform at 8 p.m. Friday for a special solo performance. He was nominated for a 2016 Grammy award for Best Country Song and is touring behind his new album “Lovers and Leavers.” John Evans will open the show.

Tickets are on sale at 740-753-1924 or www.stuartsoperahouse.org. Reserved seats are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

On Saturday, Stuart’s Opera House will host the Southeast Ohio’s Poetry Out Loud regional semifinal at 1:30 p.m. at 52 Public Square in Nelsonville.

The top scoring contestants from this year’s six Ohio regional semifinalists will be designated as state finalists and will be invited to compete in the Poetry Out Loud State Finals in Columbus on March 4. The regional semifinal will feature students from Athens High School, Logan-Hocking High School, John Glenn High School (New Concord), and Southern High School (Racine).

The poetry event is free and open to the public.
