Parkersburg High School Chamber Choir to perform at state conference

PARKERSBURG —  The Parkersburg High School Chamber Choir will be the opening performance at next month’s West Virginia Music Educators conference in Charleston.

The choir will perform a 30-minute concert at 11 a.m. March 2 at the Charleston Civic Center.

“This is the conference that all band, choir and orchestra teachers as well as All State Band, All State Choir and All State Orchestra students attend,” said PHS choir director Pam McClain.

McClain said the 11 a.m. concert is the ideal time to perform.

“This is the best time because most everyone will be in attendance. We basically open the conference,” she said. “The president of the conference will present us with a plaque at the conclusion of our concert.”

McClain said to be considered, she submitted three recordings of the chamber choir, which were judged by music educators from colleges and universities throughout the country. The PHS Chamber Choir received the highest composite score, she said.

“That is why we received the best time slot for the biggest audience to hear,” McClain said.  “There will be one high school honor band, one middle school honor choir and one high school honors orchestra performing later in the conference.”
