Golfers raise money in cancer battle

VIENNA – Wednesday was a beautiful cool morning with 95 ladies in pink playing golf at the Parkersburg Country Club for a good cause.

Proceeds of over $13,000 from the Golf Fore A Cure event will be divided between WVU Foundation/Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center and Camden Clark Foundation’s Pink Mammogram Fund.

The PCC tournament was initiated years ago by Dr. Sandy Sabo to memorialize and honor the club members fighting the battle of breast cancer. It started out as a Women’s Golf Association event for the members and now has grown to include the local area and regional women golfers.

Proceeds have been sent to various groups that have been instrumental in funding the breast cancer fight cause such as Rally for a Cure and Susan G. Komen/WV. This year the group wanted to fund research for breast cancer with the WVU Foundation and locally with the Pink Mammogram Fund.

The team winning first place in the scramble format was Kim Couch, Taia Lincicome, Nicole Lincicome and Lauryn Davidson. Longest drive was by Bobbie Karr and winning closest to the golf hole was Darla Oliver.

Mulligans, door prize tickets and 50/50 raffle tickets were sold that morning.

Golf For a Cure committee members are Sue Lilly, Judy Crichton, Gina McClinton and Anne Coffman.

A cake reception was held in the Parkersburg Country Club ballroom following the tournament.
