PARKERSBURG — The Greater Parkersburg Convention and Visitors Bureau announced on its Facebook page that there will be no Parkersburg Paddlefest event this year.

After careful consideration, the CVB made the decision to cancel the event, which has always coincided with Downtown PKB’s “Downtown Throwdown” event on the second weekend in September.

This year, the date of the Downtown Throwdown was changed to Aug. 24. Given the extreme heat that the area has experienced already this summer, CVB officials felt that holding the event in late August would not be advisable. Additional circumstances, unique to this year, do not allow the CVB to schedule the event on its usual weekend either.

When the weather permits, the CVB encourages area paddlers to use the kayak access point at Point Park to explore the Ohio and Little Kanawha rivers. For those without boats, Wild River Kayak Co. LLC offers kayak rentals from the CVB’s Welcome Center in downtown Parkersburg. Kayak rentals are also available at Mountwood Park provided by Mountwood Adventure Concession and at North Bend Lake provided by North Bend Outfitters. For those interested in Ohio paddling, Human Hydro Outfitters offers kayak delivery services in Marietta and Belpre and kayaks can also be rented from Marietta Adventure Company’s storefront.

Starting at $2.99/week.
