On the Write Track: Marietta author organizes her way to a second book
MARIETTA — A Marietta businesswoman and landlady already with a book in her resume has written another about organizing clutter.
Wendy Keenan Myers says she has an extreme collector husband, three procrastinating children and “off-the-chart ADHD in the mix,” all fodder for her latest work, “Lift Your Family Out of Chaos: How to Live With, Schedule and Organize Your ADHD Family of Collectors, Hoarders and Procrastinators.” The book was published this year.
“I give a lot of examples,” she said.
Myers and her husband, Todd, have owned and managed rental properties for more than 20 years in Marietta. Her experience and knowledge were the backdrop of “Lessons from the Landlady,” which was published in 2023.
“Lessons from the Landlady” was about solving issues and mistakes she has made in property management.
“(Lift your family Out of Chaos) is kind of a diversion,” Myers said.
The book, which she researched on her own, discusses different ways to solve the problems of hoarding, collecting and procrastination and their impact on the family, Myers said. Many times the person responsible doesn’t realize the harm they are doing, she said.
They also may not know what to do or where to begin toward getting organized, Myers said. The first steps may be the most difficult, she said.
“They just don’t know how to start,” Myers said.
Not all situations and people react the same, she said. What may work for one person may not work for another, Myers said. The goal is an orderly home, she said.
“I go through a lot of different things that worked for my family,” she said.
Situations may be dire, but the message is help is available, that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, Myers said. Patience is key, too, she said.
“There is hope,” Myers said.
Myers has owned rental properties for more than 20 years. With writing her first love, Myers was an English major at Marietta College where she was an adjunct professor.
She also is the CEO of Ask the Landlady and has a YouTube podcast of the same name.
“Lift your family Out of Chaos” is available on Amazon and her website, askthelandlady.com. Cost is $19.95 for the hardback, $14.99 for paperback and $8.99 for the digital version.
Myers is working on a third book, also about property management.
