Prairie Farms announces closure of Marietta operations
MARIETTA — The former Broughton Dairy operations in Marietta will be closing at the end of December, according to a letter sent Wednesday to employees.
In a letter circulating on social media and confirmed to be legitimate by a Prairie Farms employee, Prairie Farms announced the end of operations at the Marietta Ohio Facility on Wednesday.
The letter of notice stated the company is permanently ending operations and laying off all employees of Prairie Farms Dairy Inc.’s Marietta, Ohio, facility and all its sub-stations branches effective Dec. 31, 2021, including the following locations:
* 1701 Greene Street, Marietta, Ohio
* 8099 CR. 1, South Point, Ohio
* 23 Industrial Blvd., Zanesville Ohio
* 1754 East Pike Street, Clarksburg, W.Va.
* 1931 Washington Street, Charleston, W.Va.
* 672 Lochgelly Road, Oak Hill, W.Va.
Local and corporate officials could not be reached Wednesday evening for comment.
The letter said the company expects the layoff to be permanent and to affect the entire facility.
Prairie Farms purchased the former Broughton assets from parent company Dean Foods in 2020 after that company filed for bankruptcy the previous year.
