Mid-Ohio Valley Piggly Wiggly stores get new owners

PARKERSBURG — A group of local grocery stores is changing owners.

A message on the Oppe’s Piggly Wiggly Facebook page from Jim and Becky Oppe said they turned over the reins of ownership on Wednesday. The new owners were not identified in the post.

“As we approach a new chapter in our lives, we would like to thank all our employees that have worked with us throughout the past 27 years,” the post said. “Without you, we could not have provided the service to our customers and community. Our customers are the best. … Community means so very much to us. Giving back to our community was the fun part. We hope we supported the community as much as it supported us.”

The Oppes own Piggly Wiggly stores at Plum Street, Emerson Avenue and Gihon Plaza in Parkersburg, as well as in Vienna and The Plains.

Mercer County-based Hometown Grocery LLC registered doing-business-as names for Plum Street, Emerson, Gihon and Vienna Piggly Wiggly with the West Virginia Secretary of State’s office effective Nov. 22. Representatives of the company could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
