App matches homeowners with lawn, snow removal services

PARKERSBURG — An app connecting property owners with lawn care and snow removal services in more than 200 markets across 46 states has expanded into Parkersburg.

GreenPal now allows people in the 26101 to 26106 zip codes to seek bids from pre-screened professionals via the company’s website, yourgreenpal.com, or app.

“Basically, anybody that can make a phone call can get their lawn mowed or their snow shoveled,” said Gene Caballero, co-founder of the company started in 2012 in Nashville, Tenn.

Vendors assess the job based on Google street and aerial images and details provided by the property owner and submit their bids, Caballero said.

“All those bids go to the homeowner,” he said. “And then the homeowner can decide who they want to work with.”

In addition to the price, property owners can base their decision on ratings and reviews of the bidding services.

Vendors have been pre-screened by submitting references and pictures of their commercial equipment and previous work. They must have a valid driver’s license and bank account.

Once the job is done, the vendor sends a time-stamped photo of their finished work and the owner pays via the app. They can also set up additional appointments for the same and other services.

For its part in the process, GreenPal collects 5 percent of the cost.

“There’s no hidden fees for the homeowners; there’s no hidden fees for the vendors,” Caballero said.

While the business wasn’t developed with pandemic conditions in mind, Caballero said it does reduce contact between vendors and customers while letting customers choose from vetted service providers.

“After successfully launching in 200 other markets, we are excited to help homeowners in Parkersburg find reliable, safe and local lawn care and snow removal,” Caballero said.

GreenPal relies on data to determine which markets to enter, then reaches out to vendors in the region to make sure it has people to provide the service, he said. There is no charge for a vendor to sign up with GreenPal.
