Main Street Music hopes to resonate with Roane County residents

SPENCER — Residents of Roane County now have access to a music store with the opening of Main Street Music in Spencer.

Jeff and Alice Jordan’s, owners, previous business, A1 Video and Electronics, was in Parkersburg and Marietta, but they decided to bring their business back home to the Spencer community.

The new location used to be home to Hughes Jewelry, which was first opened in the 1950s.

The Jordans took over the building in April and are sprucing up the space. With the pandemic and closure of stores, Jeff Jordan said they were able to get more work done to take some of the urgency off.

While Main Street Music specializes in selling new and used guitars, woodwind, brass and other stringed instruments, it’s also a place to shop for a variety of other items.

“We try to keep a fair number of low-priced stuff that we know will be good quality. Beginners can get a good start here,” Jordan said.

Since the building was once a jewelry store, the Jordans want to pay homage to its history by continuing to sell jewelry and other gift items.

“It’s been a jewelry store for 50 years, we don’t want to ignore that. It makes the store a little more diverse,” Jordan said.

With their previous locations, the Jordans used to offer DVD rentals, but since there’s no longer a market for that, they will sell movies and other electronics.

“The days of a standalone music store are pretty much over. You’ve got to do something else besides that,” Jordan said.

Main Street Music will be a buy, sell and trade location. Customers can bring in their older instruments to buy a new model.

“(We) also have parts and repair for most instruments,” Jordan said. “If you buy stuff used you have to generally do some repair work.”

Music lessons will be offered at a later date. At first, guitar will be the only lessons offered, but more instruments will be added at some point, Jordan said.

Main Street Music is the only music shop in Spencer and the other surrounding area.

Jordan said a majority of their customer base will likely come from the Calhoun and Roane County area.

Main Street Music, located at 144 Main St., is open 10-6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. For more information, visit its Facebook page.
