WVU schedules Economic Outlook Series

MORGANTOWN — The West Virginia University Bureau of Business and Economic Research will begin its fall Economic Outlook Series in October with the first of five events that will run through mid-November.

The bureau in the College of Business and Economics will present its West Virginia Economic Outlook 2019-2023 statewide economic analysis and forecast 7:30 a.m.-noon Oct. 3 at Embassy Suites in Charleston. The event will include economic outlooks from the state and national perspectives.

“Our state has several different economies within its borders, each with its own unique characteristics and components,” John Deskins, director of the bureau, said. “The Economic Outlook Conference Series will include five events, and each will feature BBER and national economists who provide analyses and forecasts.”

Other events are:

* New River Gorge Area Economic Outlook Conference, 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 10, Tamarack Conference Center, Beckley.

* Wheeling Area Economic Outlook Conference, 7:30 a.m.-noon Oct. 23, Wheeling Island Hotel-Racetrack-Casino

* North Central West Virginia Economic Outlook Conference, 8 a.m.-noon Nov. 13 Robert H. Mollohan Research Center, I-79 Technology Park, Fairmont.

* West Virginia Eastern Panhandle Economic Outlook Conference, 8-10:30 a.m. Nov. 14, Holiday Inn, Martinsburg.

The Economic Outlook Conference Series is the bureau’s public event with business and community leaders, policymakers and stakeholders in West Virginia attending, Deskins said. The information is reliable and unbiased about national and state trends and forecasts and there is factual discussion about economic issues of interest, he said.

“The conference series is one of the delivery mechanisms for this data and is critical to stakeholders statewide,” Deskins said. “It’s one of the many ways we contribute to the West Virginia Forward initiative, which is designed to advance West Virginia’s economic future. Providing reliable data and analysis helps leaders in our state make more thorough decisions with their constituencies.”
